Over time, Mike developed a preference for the look of black and white
over colour, and natural light and locations over the studio. He grew up
shooting Kodak Tri-X film and always enjoyed the way it forced the viewer
to look at an image differently – making them concentrate on shape and
texture – as opposed to being overwhelmed by the distraction of colour.
Natural light and interesting off beat locations – whether in his
landscapes, portraits, or nudes – often involve water, derelict buildings
and high contrast, and have all come to be a recognizable part of his
signature style.
While some artists might shy away from the difficulties of shooting
outdoors or on location, Mike embraces this challenge. He opts for sourcing
unique locations with a wow factor and featuring natural light that help
achieve a more fashion/ editorial look in his artistic portraits, nudes, or
landscapes.
While Mike is available for commission or hire, he is first and foremost
an artistic photographer and it gives him his greatest creative outlet. It
inspires him to do more, push the envelope. He feels that this directly
translates into producing unique, highly personalized, and creative images
for his clients and generally in his art.
All work here, unless otherwise noted, was shot with a Canon DSLR.
